Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso is preparing his team for a crucial London derby against Tottenham Hotspur as the Blues look to continue their recent improvement in the Premier League.

The Spanish coach, who took charge of Chelsea in July 2026, is working to build a team capable of competing consistently for major trophies. His approach has focused on tactical flexibility, defensive organisation and helping players understand their responsibilities on the pitch.

Chelsea recently recorded a convincing 2-0 victory over Everton, with Pedro Neto scoring both goals. The result followed an impressive 5-1 win against Bournemouth, giving Alonso's side renewed confidence ahead of their upcoming fixtures.

However, the manager must also deal with injury concerns. Chelsea captain Reece James is expected to miss several weeks following knee surgery, leaving the team without an important leader during a demanding period.

The upcoming match against Tottenham will provide another opportunity for Alonso to demonstrate his tactical ideas against a London rival. Chelsea supporters will be hoping their players can maintain their recent momentum and deliver another strong performance at Stamford Bridge.

Alonso has made it clear that flexibility and defensive balance are important to his plans. His immediate challenge is to turn those ideas into consistent results while managing injuries and the pressure of competing in the Premier League.

For Chelsea, the Tottenham encounter could be an important test of their progress under their new manager.
