Gor Mahia's position at the top of the FKF Premier League standings could come under immediate pressure when KCB FC host Posta Rangers in Friday's Week Three opener at Police Sacco Stadium.
KCB, currently third with four points, will move to seven if they defeat the struggling Mailmen in the 4pm encounter.
That would put them one point ahead of Gor Mahia, who lead the standings with six points from two matches.
The result would also give KCB a temporary advantage over the other early contenders before the remaining Week Three fixtures are played.
Gor Mahia have made a perfect start to their title defence, collecting maximum points from their opening two matches and recording a goal difference of plus three.
Mara Sugar occupy second place with four points and a goal difference of plus one, while KCB are third on the same points tally and goal difference.
AFC Leopards, Kakamega Homeboyz and Shabana also have four points each, creating a congested group immediately below the leaders.
Their positions are separated by goal difference, highlighting how tightly contested the early standings remain.
Murang'a Seal sit seventh with three points and a goal difference of plus two, following their 5-1 victory over Posta Rangers.
Tusker are eighth with three points from one match and a goal difference of plus two.
Further down, 3K FC, Nairobi United and Bandari have each collected two points.
Migori Youth, Kenya Police, APS Bomet, Mathare United and Ulinzi Stars occupy positions between 12th and 16th, with their early campaigns yet to produce a strong points return.
Mombasa United are 17th with no points and a goal difference of minus two, while Posta Rangers occupy the bottom position after losing their opening two matches.
Posta's minus-five goal difference is currently the worst in the division.
Today's fixture therefore carries different implications for both sides.
