Manchester United and Manchester City suffered disappointing defeats in the latest Premier League action, with the two English giants dropping points as the league standings continued to take shape.
Manchester City were beaten 1-0 by Brighton, missing an opportunity to strengthen their position at the top of the table. Despite the defeat, Pep Guardiola's side remain first with 21 points after nine matches, having recorded six wins, three draws and suffered their first defeat of the campaign.
Arsenal are second with 21 points but have played eight matches, meaning they have an opportunity to move ahead of City with a positive result in their next fixture. Brighton, meanwhile, climbed to third position with 19 points after nine matches, following their impressive victory over the defending champions.
Manchester United also endured another difficult afternoon after losing 2-0 to Chelsea. The defeat leave Michael Carrick's side in 17th position with just seven points from nine matches, raising further questions about their inconsistent performances this season.
Chelsea, on the other hand, strengthened their position in the top four with 16 points, having collected five victories, one draw and suffered three defeats.
Liverpool occupy fifth position with 15 points, while Brentford are sixth with 14 points. Bournemouth, Hull, Leeds and Newcastle complete the top ten, with Aston Villa, Ipswich and Everton also sitting above Tottenham.
At the bottom, Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland occupy the relegation positions.
With the campaign still progressing, both Manchester clubs will be under pressure to respond positively in their upcoming fixtures.
