Aston Villa produced a stunning performance to beat Manchester City 2-1 at Villa Park on Saturday, ending the champions' seven-match winning run in the Premier League.
Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson was the hero, scoring twice to give Unai Emery's side their first home league win of the season.
Villa made the perfect start. In the 6th minute, Manchester City defender Marc Guehi made a heavy touch and captain John McGinn pounced on the mistake. McGinn quickly fed Jackson, who remained calm and slotted the ball into the bottom corner past Gianluigi Donnarumma to make it 1-0.
Manchester City responded strongly and dominated possession. They created several chances but Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki made important saves to keep his team ahead at half-time.
After the break, City came out with more intensity. City boss Enzo Maresca made two changes at half-time, bringing on Phil Foden and Rico Lewis for Rayan Cherki and Marc Guehi.
City's pressure paid off in the 52nd minute. Iliman Ndiaye delivered a clipped cross from a free-kick and Erling Haaland rose highest to head the ball home. It was Haaland's ninth Premier League goal of the season and his 175th goal for Manchester City.
The equaliser only lasted eight minutes. In the 60th minute, Aston Villa restored their lead through Jackson again.
Substitute Ibrahim Mbaye burst down the right flank and sent a low cross into the penalty area. Jackson met the ball with a first-time shot that appeared comfortable for Donnarumma. However, the Italian goalkeeper made a costly error as the ball slipped through his hands and crossed the line to make it 2-1.
Despite City controlling 63 percent of possession and having 15 shots, they could not find a second equaliser.
Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki produced brilliant saves to secure the win.
City remain top with 21 points, but Arsenal can draw level later today. Villa climb to sixth with 11 points.
Jackson now has four Premier League goals in seven games and seven goals in all competitions since joining from Chelsea.
