Sports influencer Kevin Masagara has joked that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta should be jailed in place of cult leader Paul Mackenzie. According to reports, he made the remark in a video posted on social media on Saturday, November 7, 2026.
Masagara, a Manchester United fan, reportedly blamed Arteta for the frustration Arsenal have caused rival teams in the English Premier League this season. Reports indicate he questioned why Mackenzie should serve a long sentence while Arsenal were making life hard for other clubs and their fans.
The influencer reportedly suggested that Arteta should "substitute" Mackenzie and go to prison instead. He also wondered how one team could cause so much trouble in a 20-team league. K24 Digital described the comments as a joke.
His remarks came a day after Mackenzie was sentenced. On Friday, November 6, a court in Mombasa sentenced the self-proclaimed pastor to 200 years in prison, according to reports. The sentence follows a conviction on October 19 over the Shakahola deaths.
The court found that 183 followers died of starvation and eight others were murdered directly, according to K24 Digital. Mackenzie received 100 years for the starvation-related murders and another 100 years for the direct killings. The terms will run consecutively.
Al Jazeera reports that 28 of his associates were also convicted and given various prison terms. Prosecutors said Mackenzie directed extreme fasting at his ranch in Shakahola Forest. Mackenzie denied forcing anyone to starve, but the court rejected his defence.
The case has drawn strong public reaction since the bodies were discovered in 2023. Mackenzie's family has maintained that he is innocent. Relatives told reporters in Machakos County on Saturday that they plan to appeal.
Masagara's video has attracted attention online. It is not clear how social media users have responded.
