Aston Villa claimed one of their most significant results of the season earlier today after beating Premier League leaders Manchester City 2-1 at Villa Park through a brace from Nicolas Jackson.
Jackson scored once in each half to help Unai Emery's side secure three points against a team that had won seven of its opening eight league matches.
The striker opened the scoring in the sixth minute after being set up by John McGinn. Villa held on to their advantage until the interval, putting City under pressure to respond after the restart.
Haaland brought the visitors level in the 52nd minute, with Ismaïla Ndiaye providing the assist. The goal gave City a chance to take control of the match, but Villa soon regained the lead.
Jackson completed his brace in the 60th minute, converting a move assisted by I. Mbaye. The goal proved decisive as Villa kept City from scoring again in the closing stages.
The victory takes Villa to 14 points from nine matches, having entered the fixture sixth in the table with 11 points from eight games.
They had recorded three wins, two draws and three defeats before facing City.
The result provides a welcome boost for Villa after an uneven start to the campaign.
Beating the league leaders also gives Emery's side an opportunity to build momentum as they attempt to climb further up the standings.
City, meanwhile, remain on 21 points after nine matches. Their defeat could benefit Arsenal, who began Saturday in second place with 18 points and had a game in hand before hosting Everton.
Villa's immediate achievement, however, is a home victory against one of the strongest sides in the division.
Jackson's two goals proved the difference in a match where City managed to recover from their early setback but could not find a second equaliser.
The attendance at Villa Park was 36,743 as the home side secured a result that strengthens their position in the top half of the Premier League table.
