Manchester United have suffered a major injury setback after Carlos Baleba was ruled out for several weeks with a hamstring injury.
Manager Michael Carrick confirmed that the midfielder sustained a significant injury that will keep him away from action for an extended period.
Speaking about Baleba's condition, Carrick revealed that the injury was more serious than initially hoped, ruling out an immediate return to the squad.
The United manager also confirmed that the Cameroonian international will not recover in time for the upcoming international break.
Carrick said Baleba would be sidelined for "a number of weeks", dealing a blow to United's plans as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures.
The midfielder's absence could force United to adjust their options in the middle of the park, with the coaching staff expected to explore alternative combinations during his recovery.
Baleba's injury comes at an unfortunate time for the player, who will now focus on rehabilitation before returning to full training.
United will hope to have him back as soon as possible as they continue their campaign, although his exact return date remains uncertain.
