Rabat – Morocco’s draft 2027 Finance Law earmarks MAD 550 million (55 billion centimes) for the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat, as the Kingdom continues preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The allocation is included in the Finance Bill’s accompanying report on the regional distribution of public investment, which outlines planned funding for several major sports infrastructure projects.

The MAD 550 million represents payment credits scheduled for 2027 as part of a broader investment program, rather than a newly announced renovation project separate from the complex’s existing budget.

According to the report, the total investment cost associated with the Rabat sports complex stands at approximately MAD 6.74 billion.

However, the specific works to be financed through the 2027 allocation have not yet been publicly detailed.

New funding follows 2025 reconstruction

The proposed allocation comes just over a year after the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium reopened following extensive reconstruction.

Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan officially inaugurated the stadium on September 4, 2025, ahead of Morocco’s World Cup qualifying match against Niger the following day.

The reconstructed venue, which accommodates more than 68,000 spectators, was designed to meet FIFA’s requirements for major international competitions, including the 2030 World Cup.

The stadium also served as one of the principal venues for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which Morocco hosted.

Its inclusion in the 2027 investment program raises questions about which additional works or outstanding project commitments the new budget allocation will cover.

Morocco continues World Cup stadium investments

The proposed Finance Law includes approximately MAD 1.98 billion in payment credits for six major stadium projects linked to the 2030 World Cup.

The planned Hassan II Stadium in Benslimane receives the largest allocation, at MAD 889 million, followed by Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex at MAD 550 million and Tangier’s Grand Stadium at MAD 494 million.

Smaller amounts are also programmed for stadium projects in Fez, Marrakech and Agadir.

These investments are part of Morocco’s preparations to co-host the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.

The proposed funding remains subject to the parliamentary approval of the 2027 Finance Bill.
