Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has warned Shabana FC that further incidents involving the use of smoke bombs, flares and other prohibited pyrotechnics could attract disciplinary sanctions.
In a communiqué dated Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the federation expressed concern over the use of smoke bombs and other pyrotechnic devices by a section of Shabana supporters during their 2026/27 Football Kenya Federation Premier League clash against AFC Leopards at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, October 25.
FKF said the incident occurred despite an earlier directive issued to all 18 clubs participating in the league on October 23, reminding them of the strict ban on pyrotechnics inside stadiums and their surrounding areas on match days.
The federation reiterated that flares, smoke bombs, fireworks and similar devices are prohibited, citing the need to uphold match-day regulations and protect the safety of players, officials, supporters and other stadium users.
Following the incident, FKF directed Shabana FC to take immediate measures to communicate the ban to its supporters and prevent a recurrence during future matches.
The federation cautioned that any further violations could result in disciplinary action in accordance with the applicable regulations.
“Please note that any further incidents involving the use of prohibited pyrotechnics may attract disciplinary sanctions in accordance with the applicable regulations,” FKF stated.
The federation also urged the Kisii-based club to work closely with match organisers and security personnel to ensure compliance with stadium rules and maintain safety during league fixtures.
FKF’s warning places responsibility on Shabana to ensure its supporters understand and observe the restrictions, as the federation seeks to prevent incidents that could compromise safety at football venues.
The use of smoke bombs and flares by football supporters is often associated with attempts to create an electrifying atmosphere in stadiums. However, such devices can pose safety risks, particularly in crowded stands, and are prohibited under the federation’s match-day directives.
FKF concluded by asking the club to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves and cooperate with the relevant authorities to ensure that future matches are conducted in a safe environment.
