The win also gives Leopards an opportunity to close the gap on early leaders Gor Mahia, who began their title defence with victories over Murang’a Seal and APS Bomet.

AFC Leopards secured their first win of the 2026/27 FKF Premier League season on Tuesday, edging Kenya Police FC 2-1 at Nyayo National Stadium in a match that saw a disputed first-half decision followed by a late winner.

Ingwe had started the campaign with a goalless draw against Bandari and needed a response to avoid dropping more points in the early rounds. They found the breakthrough after the interval, but Kenya Police fought back to level the score and set up a tense finish.

Kevin Luke Otiala put Leopards ahead in the 49th minute, giving the hosts an early advantage in the second half. Kenya Police responded around the hour mark, with Elvis Rupia finishing a move created by Edward Omondi, who reached the byline before cutting the ball back into the area.

The equaliser put the pressure back on Leopards, who had to find another goal to claim maximum points. Their persistence paid off in stoppage time when Ronald Sichenje struck to settle the contest and give Ingwe their first league victory of the season.

The result followed a difficult first half for Leopards, with frustration spilling into the stands after Tyson Otieno had an effort ruled out despite protests that the ball had crossed the goal line. Supporters threw objects onto the pitch, creating a tense atmosphere as the teams headed towards the break.

Kenya Police, who had drawn their opening league match against Migori Youth, could not find a second goal after Rupia brought them level. The defeat leaves them still searching for their first victory of the new campaign, while Leopards can take confidence from turning a difficult contest into three points.

The win also gives Leopards an opportunity to close the gap on early leaders Gor Mahia, who began their title defence with victories over Murang’a Seal and APS Bomet. With the season still in its early stages, consistency will be important for Ingwe after they dropped points in their opening fixture.

Leopards will return to Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, October 25, for their Matchweek Three fixture against Shabana FC, hoping to build on their first win of the season.
