Nottingham Forest man proves he’s not good enough and Glasner has better players

Nottingham Forest were beaten by Brentford at the G-Tech Community Stadium as the Reds remained in the bottom three of the Premier League.

The pressure on Oliver Glasner is mounting. In fairness, in recent weeks, he’s coached a number of winning performances, but his team have let him down badly, missing a host of gilt-edged chances to win games.

The result at Brentford saw Glasner launch into his players, advising them to get on board or simply ask to leave the club once the January transfer window reopens in a couple of months.

Glasner wasn’t completely faultless at Brentford, however, and one decision proved to be completely ridiculous, and the head coach can’t afford to keep picking one player again this season.

Ryan Yates is running out of chances

With Forest trailing at the break, it felt like a completely strange call to send Yates into action for the second half, considering he’s not played a single minute of action all season for the Reds.

Unsurprisingly, Yates failed to grasp his chance. The best chance of the second half from a Forest perspective came from Yates, and despite his backers lauding his heading ability, he managed to get it all wrong and completely waste the chance.

Yates playing wouldn’t be a problem if Forest were completely devoid of midfield options. However, it remains a mystery that Ibrahim Sangare or Nicolas Dominguez are seemingly unable to get a kick under Glasner – which seems extremely odd.

With Glasner preferring James McAtee as a midfield option – and rightly so – he needs a defensive foil and workhorse around him, with Dominguez and Sangare both capable of doing that job with aplomb.

The fact that Yates is still being considered as an option from the bench five years into the Premier League journey is concerning, and that decision from Glasner felt a little bit desperate against Brentford.

Glasner has hinted at changes next week against Manchester City. Hopefully, that suggests that Sangare or Dominguez – if not both – will come into the action, with Yates surely all out of chances to play in the Forest midfield under the current setup.

Yates is the club captain and a respected figure within the dressing room. However, he can’t be the man tasked with getting Forest out of the mess they find themselves in, with a wealth of other options and far better footballers than him at the club.
