Round 5 of the 2026/27 SportPesa League delivered another action-packed round with matches played on Sunday and Monday with 20 goals scored across nine matches, matching Round 1 as the highest-scoring round of the campaign so far.
This round produced 20 goals in nine matches, matching Gameweek 1 for the highest tally in a single round so far.
Eight of the nine matches produced at least one goal, with only APS Bomet and Murang’a SEAL playing out a goalless draw.
KCB’s 2-1 victory over Gor Mahia ended the league leaders’ perfect four-match winning start and made KCB the first team to defeat Gor Mahia this season.
Despite suffering their first loss of the campaign, Gor Mahia remain at the summit with 12 points from five matches.
AFC Leopards’ 2-0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz extended their unbeaten start to five matches.
They have conceded just one goal all season, while Tom Ikara registered his fourth clean sheet — the highest tally by any goalkeeper in the league.
As a result, the second win of the season saw Fred Ambani’s charges break into the league’s top three. They currently sit third with nine points, one behind second-placed KCB and three behind their rivals, Gor Mahia.
Round 5 saw Gor Mahia, Shabana and Mara Sugar suffer their first defeats of the season, with KCB, Kenya Police and Tusker ending their respective unbeaten starts.
Only AFC Leopards and Migori Youth now remain unbeaten after five Gameweeks.
Meanwhile, away teams recorded four victories — Migori Youth, KCB, 3K FC and Kenya Police — compared to three home wins, while two matches ended in draws.
It has been a dream start for Frenchman Raphael Plato, who has guided Kenya Police to back-to-back victories since taking charge.
The 1-0 win over Shabana lifted the Law Enforcers to eight points from five matches and strengthened their push towards the top four.
