Introduction

It’s worth noting that the teams shown may not necessarily end up being the final teams or the transfers may have been made in the days prior to the posting . It’s an informal situation to give you an idea of trends.

However the FFGeek team, the Transfer Planner Team and the Contributor Vote team Plus the Contributor teams of Rob, Rick, Andrew, Pete, Javier, Andy and Joe mentioned above on the FFGeek Patreon site all make notified transfers live as they are completed. So you’re always up to date and live for a maximum £4 PCM.

The 12 top FPL managers average refers to the 12 top FPL managers who finished in the top 10k Overall Rank the last 3 seasons. See my article analysing their teams

GW7 review

So a disappointing gameweek going from 500th Overall rank to 2.9k. 2 consecutive red arrows from 243rd in the world to now.

De Cuyper and Calvert-Lewin probably hitting my Overall Rank the most as I had Gvardiol with 0 points in comparison to De Cuypers 6. Gonzalo had 2 points in comparison to Calvert-Lewin’s 9.

Luckily my transfer in was a success with Konsa getting 9 points compared Jacquet’s 3. The other alternative was De Cuyper who got 6 points so I came out on top there.

My Brighton defence hedge with Verbruggen (I so hate playing the fear game) got a clean sheet 6 points vs most peoples choice of Kinsky with 2.

So I got some things right but others with Calvert-Lewin> Gonzalo or Mbeumo > KDH didn’t help the situation and led to a heavy drop of close to 6 times my previous rank.

Gvardiol not starting for the 2nd consecutive game and somehow getting booked in 20 odd minutes also didn’t help. A Shaw injury no show also isn’t helpful for defensive depth as well

GW8 preview

1 free transfer and £3.9m ITB

I took out Jacquet last week for De Cuyper instead of taking out Shaw because I wanted to have the cash for Le Fee to Saka. I have the exact cash to do this so will be keeping an eye on price predictions

Saka as of last week only really had 1 ordinary performance in GW6 at home to Leeds. However the Forest away game was a disaster with his first game without a shot as a starter in the PL for 50 games.

The home game entry point v Everton is not as I would generally like it. I would rather it was against the likes of Palace, Fulham, Ipswich, Coventry etc. He does have Hull at home in GW10 but I could Wildcard him in for that and solve my Gvardiol or Shaw problem instead.

Conversely though I only have to hold them until potentially GW10 or GW11 when I will Wildcard.

Joe’s AI Planner has a nifty new feature which will tell you which gameweek is the best for your wildcard over whatever gameweek horizon you want. It’s saying to me that GW11 is the best option but I’m still open to GW10 as well.

Captain wise I’m going to stick with Haaland. If you see Geek’s early thoughts article you can see he is top in virtually every relevant metric. Villa have been pretty disastrous defensively and rank 2nd bottom in Geeks average xG conceded. I’m not convinced a clean sheet at Newcastle changes the dial significantly. A weeks rest is also useful

The bench is likely to be Kinsky, Gvardiol, KDH and Shaw. That may not be the order though.

GW9 I will likely replace Gonzalo with Barry or sort out Gvardiol for Van Hecke of Spurs who in GW9 has Palace.

See and subscribe to my YouTube video this week where I will give the final transfer decision

Transfer summary: Possibly Le.Fee OUT and Saka IN

FPL and City line up

A green arrow up to 717k. I do seem to be stuck in a bit of holding pattern at the moment and it is difficult to see how to break out of that in the short term. There are some very highly owned players meaning that only 3 or 4 can make a big difference to rank. I think a lot of people are in a similar position as I have never seen so many transfer stacked up. It doesn’t make for the most exciting start to an FPL season but something will happen. The plan is to try and keep getting small greens and then hit on one or two low owned players to move the rank significantly upwards.

The injury I’ve been asked about the most is Semenyo who is facing 8 weeks out, and how that will affect minutes for other City players.

If Haaland is in the team I think the most likely formation is Doku on the left, Ndiaye on the right with Cherki or Foden sharing minutes behind Haaland. If Haaland is rested then I’d expect the same wingers with Foden or even Cherki as the false 9 with the other playing behind. Ndiaye, however, can play both wings so it’s possible we could see him on the left and one of Foden or Cherki on the right with the other playing in the 10. It is also possible that Enzo might go to the 10 and both Anderson and Bouaddi start. In other words it’s as clear as mud. I think Ndiaye is probably the most nailed of all. He has played more minutes than I expected at the start of the season and Maresca trusts him. He also has the versatility to switch wings. Let’s see what the line up is tonight as I expect Haaland to be rested against AEK Athens.

GW7

GW7 started with 3 Chelsea attackers away at Everton. They all blanked. It’s going to happen. I am not totally happy with having 3 attackers from the same team but I will definitely be holding and playing them all at home to Spurs. I expect a lot of goals in that game and hopefully, this time, they are shared between the 3.

Haaland got a brace and was very close to a hat trick but Enzo was having a kip and was marginally offside. His haul didn’t really help any as there were a lot of triple captains played on him and his ownership was sky high. Haaland was hobbling at the end of the game and so was I leaving the Etihad as I have torn my calf muscle, however, I think Haaland will be OK for the weekend whereas I will still be on crutches for tonights UCL game.

Newcastle continue to disappoint and I’m glad I made the late decision to sell Wissa for DCL. I was slightly concerned when I saw Wissa playing much further forward and in fact he had his highest xGi of the season but the end result was a single pointer. An 8 point gain for the DCL transfer.

In the Sunday games Brighton thrashed Palace and are scoring at will. An Assist for the newly bought Groß and a clean sheet for De Cuyper. I might have expected more returns from the two with 5 goals being scored and Groß was not given a goal for a shot that came off the head of a defender. There was some talk he should be awarded the goal but apparently Opta logged it as a cross rather than a shot.

DCL got the goal at home to United and in the later kick off Arsenal kept a clean sheet with Konsa picking up maximum bonus. No return from Saka again and, to be honest, it never looked likely. He will, however, be staying for the home game against Everton and, at least, until GW10 when they play Hull.

GW7 Review

Ugh, another frustrating week! 68 points may have been above the overall average for the week but was well behind the elite managers as I continue to lose ground on the higher ranks. I did at least manage a green arrow, but this was more a virtue of my overall ranking being so low rather than it being a strong performance from my team.

I had 6 returns, but the only one who made any massive difference was Haaland as at my lowly overall rank he only ranked at 130% EO this week. Raya’s 9 pointer was counterbalanced by Konsa and although I did gain 2 points from transferring in De Cuyper over Hall, all this did was hold rank rather than make any dent thanks mainly to the exploits of Vuskovic.

The template is pretty strong at the moment and to make any decent rank gains, then your differentials have to fire and mine most certainly didn’t this week. There was some quite epic points dodging from King and Garcia. They have 1 more week to salvage something before they go onto the Transfer Out list. Similarly Saka did next to nothing in an Arsenal performance that literally sent me to sleep in the first half.

The one crumb of comfort was that it looks like (for this week at least) I made the right call on not playing my Bench Boost – 2 of my players scored 0, so it would have returned a grand total of 9. The bad news of course is that I’ve still got the chip so will have to continue to hold cash on the bench that I could spend elsewhere.

GW7 review

It was another disappointing week and 3 red arrows in a row has seen me go from sub 200k to nearly 900k post wildcard. It was right to play the wildcard but the picks just haven’t worked out and I was once again punished by Gross and de Cuyper (although to a lesser extent vs what it could have been). Silva’s 8 points were helpful in avoiding a disaster this week.
