A brutal mass brawl resulted in 51 red cards being shown during a football fixture in Brazil as a manager told a referee "I want to kill you". A encounter between Uberlandia and Mamore saw a fiery incident last nearly 40 minutes as the contest spiralled into mayhem. The Minas Gerais Under-20 Championship fixture witnessed 43 players and eight staff members receiving their dismissals. A total of 48 of those red cards were issued in the match-ending mass confrontation.

It had been a heated affair even before the eruption of violence. Uberlandia player Luike was dismissed after he collected a second yellow card for hitting his opponent in the stomach, while Mamore's Joao Henrique earned a second yellow card for abusing the official.

Netinho, from Uberlandia, was then shown a straight red card after striking the Mamore goalkeeper in the abdomen. Tensions exploded in second-half injury time when Mamore scored to seal a 3-1 triumph.

During their celebrations, goalscorer Davi Fernandes Bittencourt made provocative and inflammatory gestures towards the Uberlandia bench, reportedly saying: "This is Mamore, go f*** yourself! Suck it! Go f*** yourself!"

The ensuing chaos saw fists fly as stretchers and chairs were dragged into the brawl.

Mamore eventually had 29 individuals dismissed and Uberlandia 22, as the sides shattered the record tally of red cards.

The previous Guinness Book of Records record stood at 36 in a match between Atletico Claypole and Victoriano Arenas in the fifth tier of Argentine football.

Referee Fernando Patrick even lodged a police complaint after the fixture in Brazil and military police were needed to step in.

However, Patrick's grievance stemmed from an incident that took place before the fracas, as he alleged Willer Francisco Silva, manager of Uberlandia, intimidated him.

The official's statement noted that the pitch was stormed eight minutes into the second half, with insults and threats being shouted.
