Rabat – Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan has responded to reports suggesting that he could leave his position, questioning the rumors surrounding his future and insisting that his personal life should not affect the assessment of his professional responsibilities.
In an interview with Egyptian outlet Telegraph Egypt on Friday, November 6, Hassan said he did not know who was spreading reports about his possible departure.
“I do not know who is promoting the news of my departure from the Egypt national team in this way,” he said.
The 59-year-old also rejected attempts to link reports about his personal and marital disagreements to his work as national team coach, arguing that professional performance should remain the basis for evaluating him.
Hassan expressed frustration over the attention given to his private life, questioning why personal matters had become part of discussions about his position with the national team.
He explained that he had maintained a policy of avoiding media appearances and had never publicly discussed matters concerning his family.
His comments come amid growing speculation about his position, with reports linking his professional future to controversies surrounding his personal life.
Hassan strongly rejected attempts to connect his family matters, particularly reports about marital disagreements, with his work as national team coach.
“What do my marital disagreements have to do with my work?” he asked, expressing frustration over what he described as an unreasonable mixing of personal and professional matters.
He also insisted that he had never spoken publicly about his family, saying: “I have not said a single word about my family.”
The 59-year-old further defended his professionalism, questioning why his private life should affect the way his responsibilities are assessed.
The Egypt coach stressed that his performance, relationship with players, and the national team’s results should determine how his work is assessed.
He also questioned why personal disagreements should influence perceptions of his commitment to his responsibilities, insisting that professional duties must remain separate from private matters.
Beyond addressing the departure rumors, Hassan discussed the national team’s recent achievements and preparations for its upcoming commitments.
He said he had not spoken publicly about the team’s achievement following its return from the United States, adding that the latest period had allowed the coaching staff to identify several promising players who could contribute to Egyptian football in the coming years.
Hassan also confirmed that preparations for the next national team camp had already started.
According to the coach, Egypt team director recently held a meeting with Egyptian Football Association President Hany Abou Rida to discuss arrangements and plans for the next phase.
The meeting focused on organizing the upcoming camp and preparing for the national team’s future commitments.
The Egypt coach also defended his technical staff’s approach to discipline and player management.
He explained that maintaining discipline within the national team and making the best use of players’ abilities were among the coaching staff’s main responsibilities.
Hassan suggested that the success of the national team setup in imposing discipline should not become a source of criticism, adding that clubs also have responsibilities in managing their players and making proper use of their abilities.
His comments come amid previous tensions surrounding his relationship with Egyptian clubs, particularly following his remarks about Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.
For now, Hassan has made clear that he remains focused on his responsibilities with Egypt, while preparations for the next training camp continue amid speculation about his future.
