Liverpool is not in a rush to discuss a new contract with Alexis Mac Allister, despite the midfielder entering the final two years of his contract at Anfield.
That's according to The Telegraph, which claims that the Reds are in no hurry regarding the 27-year-old and his future with the club moving forward. It comes amid some growing uncertainty surrounding Mac Allister at Liverpool, with his recent uptick in form reflecting positively on his ability to create important moments for the club.
While the Argentinian international struggled through last season, along with plenty of other players in the team, his start to the current campaign has been a breath of fresh air for the side.
The World Cup winner has managed to score four goals in 11 appearances so far this season, three of which have been crucial in keeping a 100 percent win record in the Champions League, popping up with a finish against Atletico Madrid and an important brace against Villarreal.
That impressive start for Mac Allister has only ramped up debate surrounding his future on Merseyside, following a summer of links to the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid.
The midfielder made it clear that his heart was set on staying at Liverpool, but with a contract that only runs until 2028, along with new long-term deals for the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch in the midfield, uncertainty over his own future in the next year or two has arisen.
Earlier this season, when speaking to the press, Mac Allister was open about the lack of a new contract and the impact it has had, as he said: "I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which, of course, makes me very, very sad.
"Everyone can see that I give my 100 percent for this football club every single day in training and games.
"Of course, I can have very good games [and] bad games, like everyone, but I always give my best. I see Dominik and Ryan renewing their contracts, and that makes me very happy because they deserve it.
"At the same time, it makes me a little bit sad that I didn't get mine. Of course, there is still time. The fans don't need to worry because I will give my 100 percent until the last day I am here."
The lack of urgency on Liverpool's end could well create some more tension on Mac Allister's future, though it remains to be seen whether that would change where his future will be.
For now, the midfielder is showing no signs of wanting to leave, perhaps even playing with a chip on his shoulder, given the contract uncertainty.
But, at least for the time being, Liverpool is in no rush to extend his deal. While that could change, as returning sporting director Julian Ward considers plans for the future, it suggests little movement will be coming in the next few weeks at least.
