Harry Kane has surprising plan for Ballon d'Or trophy just a week after win

Harry Kane won the Ballon d'Or by just 28 points over Kylian Mbappe, and just nine days after an emotional night at London's Palladium, the Bayern Munich superstar has a surprising plan for the trophy.

After finishing the 2025/26 campaign with 73 goals for club and country, Kane became the first Englishman since Michael Owen in 2001 to win the Ballon d'Or. In doing so, he ended Bayern's 45-year wait for a player to win football's biggest individual prize, following in the footsteps of Gerd Muller, Franz Beckenbauer, and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Kane instantly confirmed a plan to give gifts to teammates at Bayern and England to thank them for their contributions to his major milestone, and he's also revealed where he wants to keep the prestigious trophy.

Where previous Ballon d'Or winners have kept their trophies

When he collected the prestigious award on October 26, many felt the 33-year-old would have to make extra room in his trophy cabinet, having previously won a raft of individual prizes.

The Ballon d'Or would sit proudest alongside 12 top goalscorer awards, two European golden boots, and four Premier League Player of the Year triumphs. But instead of keeping the trophy himself, he wants to put it in the Bayern Munich museum.

"I’ll speak to the club about whether we could put the Ballon d’Or in the Bayern Museum. I think that’s where it belongs, also so that the fans can see it," Kane said via SportBILD.

Kane wouldn't be the only player to donate the Ballon d'Or trophy to a museum. Lionel Messi has donated all eight of his to Barcelona, including his most recent one, which he won in 2023 while playing for Inter Miami.

Cristiano Ronaldo was voted the Ballon d'Or of All Time last week for his 2008 campaign with Manchester United and Portugal. He also made the headlines for auctioning a replica of his 2013 Ballon d'Or in 2017, raising €600,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Arguably the most fascinating story, though, comes from Alfredo Di Stefano. The legendary striker won two Ballon d'Ors with Real Madrid in 1957 and 1959, as well as being the only player to win a Super Ballon d'Or in 1989 - the award France Football gave to the best footballer of the past three decades.

Following his sad death in 2014, his family put the memorabilia up for sale in 2021, with his two Ballon d'Ors selling for £60,800 and £54,400, respectively, while his Super Ballon d'Or sold for £187,500.

What bonus did Harry Kane collect for winning the Ballon d'Or

According to Christian Falk, Kane is entitled to a bonus of more than €1million (£834,490) after winning the Ballon d'Or.

The England captain's contract was negotiated with performance-related incentives and other special bonuses. He receives an additional bonus for every season he finishes as the Bundesliga top scorer, doing so on three separate occasions since joining from Tottenham.

Kane's lucrative contract at Bayern also included a clause rewarding him for finishing as the Champions League’s top scorer, achieving that in his debut season at Bayern in 2023/24.

On Monday, ahead of their Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid, England's record scorer said he is "extremely close" to signing a new contract at the Allianz Arena after months of negotiations.

"I would say it is more [a matter of] days," Kane explained. There has been good conversations over this weekend and today as well.

"I know I keep saying we are close, but we are extremely close now. Details are just details in every contract. A lot of the bigger stuff has been ironed out, and we are happy with, but in every contract there are loads of little things that go into it, small details that, in the end, the lawyers have to thrash out and figure out.

Once an agreement is finalised, Kane will sign a contract that will keep him at the Bundesliga giants until 2029, weeks before his 36th birthday.
