Omar Marmoush has spoken about opening his account in front of goal for Tottenham Hotspur and about the importance of getting their first win of the league season.

In many ways, the game against Coventry City represented a fresh start for the Spurs squad, who had travelled to Marbella during the nine-day break to train and bond as a group.

According to reports, the Marbella camp was almost a mini pre-season, with De Zerbi feeling it was essential for the squad to travel together after some of the new signings and World Cup stars missed the trip to Australia and New Zealand.

The trip appears to have had the desired effect, with the Lilywhites emerging 3-1 winners over Coventry and moving out of the relegation zone.

Omar Marmoush is over the moon that Tottenham finally managed to win

Marmoush’s goal in the 58th minute was extremely crucial, as it came just nine minutes after the away side had equalised following a defensive lapse by Spurs.

The Egyptian international produced a superb finish from outside the box after rolling the defender, and his relief at getting off the mark was evident in his celebration.

Speaking after Tottenham’s 3-1 win, Marmoush told BBC Sport: “We are so, so happy. We have had good performances in the last week but haven’t got the end result of a win.

“Very happy to win our first game today, also happy to score my first goal for Tottenham. We will build on this. I am very happy (to score his first goal) it paid off but I am more happy for the three points we got today.

On Spurs recent form, the forward said: “I mean, every game we learn. As you said, we’ve played amazing in the first few weeks, but the result wasn’t there. It is just the beginning. They’re (Coventry) a very good team, good on transitions. Ben’s goal got us the three points and got the game to calm down.”

Marmoush is loving life under Roberto De Zerbi at Spurs

It has not been the easiest of starts to his Tottenham career for the former Man City man, who is yet to demonstrate that he is worth the £60m that the North Londoners spent on him.

However, the forward revealed he is loving working with his new teammates and learning from De Zerbi, admitting that there is a family feel at Spurs.

When asked about his first two months at Tottenham, the 27-year-old said: “Yeah, I feel amazing. With the coach, he helps us all and teaches us small details. He also helps us on a personal basis. I love the intensity and passion that he brings. We believe in the system that we play in. On the pitch we are like a big family and we will fight for each other until the end.”
