Arsenal's rather comical exit from the Carabao Cup has opened up a real possibility for Andoni Iraola to guide Liverpool to the first available trophy of his Reds tenure, but to do that he's going to have to get the better of Chelsea.

The Londoners, with Xabi Alonso and Jordan Henderson in tow, will be at Anfeld on Wednesday night for the headline clash of the fourth round, but how should Liverpool line up against them?

Our Reds writers have picked their teams for the contest.

I’m expecting a few changes tonight ahead of Sunday’s big game against Arsenal but does Andoni Iraola have enough options to rotate wholesale? I’m not so sure.

The real conundrum is at centre-back. I’m giving Virgil van Dijk a rest and Ronald Araujo starts alongside Jeremy Jacquet. Joe Gomez is at right-back and Kostas Tsimikas comes in on the left.

In midfield, I’m going to play a three-man system with James McConnell in there alongside Trey Nyoni and Alexis Mac Allister.

Up top, Lewis Koumas leads the line and Federico Chiesa and Rio Ngumoha are in the right and left positions.

My team (4-2-3-1): Mamardashvili; Gomez, Araujo, Jacquet, Tsimikas; Mac Allister, McConnell, Nyoni; Chiesa, Koumas, Ngumoha.

The League Cup isn't as good as the FA Cup, no matter what anyone says. But it is the quickest and earliest route to silverware.

With yet another Premier League opponent, Liverpool haven't had the best of luck in the draw although at least Chelsea have to come to Anfield. What, then, is Reds boss Andoni Iraola to do?

There will be plenty of changes, with one definite in goal where Giorgi Mamardashvili comes in. Kostas Tsimikas can be the left-back, with Ronald Araujo continuing at right-back. Virgil van Dijk can have a night off, with Jeremy Jacquet partnered by Joe Gomez at centre-back.

In midfield, Trey Nyoni can start alongside Ryan Gravenberch at the base, with James McConnell a little bit further forward.

And up top, Rio Ngumoha is on the right, Lewis Koumas down the middle and Cody Gakpo on the left.

My team (4-2-3-1): Mamardashvili; Araujo, Jacquet, Gomez, Tsimikas; Gravenberch, Nyoni; Ngumoha, McConnell, Gakpo; Koumas.

Like Black Sabbath, we're going through changes for this Anfield Carabao Cup tie, with Chelsea also in line to make several of their own too. We'll leave them for Xabi Alonso to worry about though, and crack on with the Reds.

Giorgi Mamardashvili starts in goal, behind a back four of Ronald Araujo at right-back, Kostas Tsimikas on the left and Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk in the centre. Yes the skipper needs resting occasionally, but he loves a League Cup tie against this opposition and believe it or not, can be substituted.

Trey Nyoni and James McConnell can then form a youthful, vibrant pair who can get at any veteran former Premier League and Champions League winning captains who may happen to be in the Chelsea midfield, with Ryan Gravenberch allowed to roam ahead of them, and Rio Ngumoha on the right of the attack, Bradley Barcola on the left and another start for Lewis Koumas up top.

My team (4-2-3-1): Mamardashvili; Araujo, Gomez, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Nyoni, McConnell; Ngumoha, Gravenberch, Barcola; Koumas
