Carlos Alcaraz continued his impressive 2026 season by defeating Alex de Minaur 6-1, 6-4 to win the Vienna Open title on Sunday. The Spanish world number one dominated the opening set before holding off a stronger challenge from the Australian in the second to secure his fourth ATP Tour trophy of the year.
The 23-year-old needed just 97 minutes to complete the victory at the indoor hard-court tournament in Austria. He also finished the competition without dropping a single set across his five matches, underlining his control throughout the week.
Alcaraz made an immediate impact in the final, breaking De Minaur's serve early and taking control of the rallies. His aggressive groundstrokes, movement and ability to dictate play left the Australian struggling to find a rhythm. The Spaniard comfortably claimed the opening set 6-1, putting De Minaur under pressure from the outset.
The second set was considerably more competitive. De Minaur improved his serving and attempted to extend rallies, but Alcaraz remained composed and continued to find ways to disrupt his opponent's game.
The Spaniard eventually secured the set 6-4 to seal the championship. One of the standout moments came towards the end of the match when Alcaraz combined a drop shot, a backhand lob and a cross-court forehand winner to finish the contest in style.
The Vienna Open triumph marked Alcaraz's fourth tour-level title of the 2026 season and the 28th of his professional career.
The Spaniard had already enjoyed successful campaigns in Doha and Tokyo, alongside his Australian Open triumph. His latest victory further strengthened his position among the leading players on the ATP Tour.
Alcaraz also extended his remarkable record at ATP 500 tournaments, completing the 2026 season with 16 consecutive victories at that level. His winning streak in the category reached 26 matches. Going through the Vienna tournament without losing a set was another significant achievement, highlighting his consistency on indoor hard courts.

De Minaur entered the championship match after an impressive semi-final performance against Alexander Zverev. The Australian defeated the German 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(4), ending his winning run and earning a place in the final. However, he was unable to carry that momentum into the title match against Alcaraz.
The defeat also extended De Minaur's losing head-to-head record against the Spaniard to seven matches. The Australian had been chasing his second title of 2026 after winning the Rotterdam tournament earlier in the season.
With the Vienna Open trophy secured, Alcaraz will now look towards the remaining tournaments of the season, including the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals in Turin. Having already qualified for the season-ending championship, the Spaniard will aim to maintain his form as he approaches the final stretch of the 2026 tennis calendar.
