Bryson DeChambeau will almost certainly sign up for LIV Golf 2.0 in 2027.
As things stand, there has been no official commitment to the new version of LIV Golf from Bryson DeChambeau.
However, he clearly has full faith and belief in LIV Golf 2.0, as he continues his charm offensive about the merits of the league.
It was claimed last week that DeChambeau will sign up with LIV Golf 2.0 as new information came to light regarding his partnership with BC Partners – the new financiers of the league.
TalkingPoints
Do you think Jackson Koivun is more likely to win his first major than Brooks Koepka is to win his sixth next year? 🤔
All that remains is for DeChambeau to officially confirm that he will be participating on LIV Golf 2.0 in 2027.
He has just dropped a huge hint that he will remain with the league during an appearance on Raj Shamani’s YouTube channel.
However, the two-time US Open winner has clearly failed to grasp the key point that will prevent LIV Golf 2.0 from enjoying any kind of success in the future.
Dechambeau spoke about the future of LIV Golf during his interview with Raj Shamani.
He was asked to explain why he believes the new version of the league will be a success.
“The business model makes a lot of sense,“ DeChambeau replied.
“And we’re actually working through that right now for this new model where it will make full financial sense. It’s no funny business, no nothing. It’s going to be done right.
“This is going to be a league, hopefully, that exists forever. It’s not combative. We’re not trying to compete against the tour. We want to be accretive. We want to bring value to anywhere and everywhere in the golf market across the world.“
DeChambeau’s key point is that LIV Golf 2.0 will be ‘done right’, with a more sustainable model enabling the league to enjoy success for many years to come.
However, in the next breath, the two-time major champion highlighted how he hopes the league will be ‘accretive’ and suggests that the main goal is to ‘bring value to anywhere and everywhere in the golf market across the world’.
This is where the business model of LIV Golf 2.0 simply will not work. Even if DeChambeau does indeed commit his future to LIV, there will be no interest in the product because of the lack of star power present.
Let’s take a look at the names who have officially committed their futures to LIV Golf 2.0. Richard Bland, Cameron Tringale, Brendan Steele, Victor Perez and Ben Campbell have publicly pledged their allegiance to the new version of the league.
The simple fact of the matter is that those names are not going to attract any kind of interest in the league. Whatever DeChambeau claims about the team golf aspect on LIV Golf, it will be impossible for the league to succeed without any steady revenue streams.
And unfortunately for them, there is surely no chance that anybody will commit sufficient time, effort or money into the project. LIV Golf died when Saudi Arabia’s PIF pulled the plug on their funding of the league.
The only positive to take from DeChambeau’s statement about LIV Golf 2.0 was that he at least showed some humility – something that was not present from any player when the league was first formed in 2022.
It’s a shame that newly-found humility is all too little too late. As far as I’m concerned, there is no way back for them now.
