49ers insider doesn’t expect injured 49ers WR back this season

The San Francisco 49ers’ wide receiver room may have taken another hit.

NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco said ahead of Week 9 that he doesn’t expect Christian Kirk to return in 2026.

“Christian Kirk, on the other hand, not looking good for him," Maiocco said. "He’s just been banged up and injured from the moment he signed with the 49ers, basically, injured early in the offseason program. Early in training camp and then once he got off of injured reserve, here in the regular season, injured again, this time a knee injury. MCL is what I’m understanding. So don’t expect to see Christian Kirk probably for the rest of the season.”

Kirk signed a one-year, $6 million contract with San Francisco on March 18. He was placed on injured reserve Aug. 30 with a calf strain suffered in training camp, then was activated Oct. 24. He played 20 offensive snaps with no touches in Week 7 before sustaining the injury in practice ahead of Week 9.

Kirk’s absence adds to a growing list of injuries at receiver. Mike Evans is dealing with Achilles tendinitis and Deebo Samuel is out with a hamstring injury — with neither expected to play in Week 9. Rookie De’Zhaun Stribling is sidelined with an ankle injury that's cost him every game since Week 1. Ricky Pearsall is out for the full season after he sustained a knee injury before the year even started.

There is a bit of good news. Demarcus Robinson is expected to return after missing time with an ankle injury, giving the 49ers a veteran option as they try to patch together the group.
