Former Castleford Tigers head coach Ryan Carr has secured himself a new job following his early exit from the Super League club.
Carr was in charge of Castleford for less than a year with the club announcing his exit in August, just over two weeks after they had confirmed he would not be in the box to coach against Hull KR for ‘personal reasons’.
The club’s statement confirming his exit was just 56 words and again pointed to personal reasons as they thanked him for his time in charge of Castleford Tigers.
Ending his time at Wheldon Road with eight wins from his 23 matches, it has not taken Carr long to find a new job after leaving Castleford and he’s now joined another Tigers team.
Wests Tigers have confirmed that Carr will be their new assistant coach for the 2027 season with the 38-year-old set to assist club legend and head coach Benji Marshall.
Carr is one of two appointments made by Wests with Mike Crawley also appointed as pathways coaching director.
Wests announced the news via a club statement but they made no reference to how long the deal was, simply stating that Carr and Crawley would work with Marshall ‘for the 2027 season’, implying that it may only be a one-year deal.
Head coach Marshall also confirmed that Carr will be the club’s defence coach, adding that the big appeal in appointing the ex-Castleford Tigers man was his connection to the players.
Marshall said: “Ryan brings a wealth of knowledge and was highly impressive throughout the interview process.
“What appealed to me was his ability to connect to players and the way he thinks about his footy.
“He will be our defence coach and I’m excited about what he will bring to the team.”
Wests Tigers finished the 2026 NRL season in 15th, ten points outside the play-offs.
“Ryan brings a wealth of knowledge. What appealed to me was his ability to connect to players and the way he thinks about his footy, ” Marshall said on Carr’s appointment.
