Leeds United centre-back Tarik Muharemovic has shown his strong international bond with former Elland Road transfer target Ermedin Demirovic following the striker’s latest European outing.
The Whites spent much of the summer transfer window monitoring potential frontline additions, with Stuttgart forward Demirovic repeatedly linked with a move to West Yorkshire. Leeds United ultimately reshaped their attacking options amid departures for Joe Gelhardt and Joel Piroe to Hull City and West Ham respectively, though Demirovic opted to remain in the Bundesliga.
While Demirovic stayed in Germany, his international teammate Muharemovic made his own high-profile move to Elland Road, quickly establishing himself within Daniel Farke‘s squad.
On Tuesday night, Demirovic was in action on the European stage as VfB Stuttgart hosted Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. German forward Deniz Undav captained the side, while Demirovic was introduced from the bench in the 71st minute as a replacement for goalscorer Jamie Leweling during the 1-1 draw.
Following the match, Undav and Demirovic published a joint collaboration post on Instagram capturing the pair on the pitch. Spotting the post on his feed, Muharemovic was quick to reply in the comments, leaving a succinct message reading: “Two lions”.
While Muharemovic does not share a playing background with Undav, he seemingly shares a personal friendship off the pitch and a close national team connection with Demirovic. The pair have featured together regularly for Bosnia and Herzegovina, representing their nation side-by-side 16 times.
Although a summer transfer uniting the duo at Elland Road did not materialise, Muharemovic’s public support highlights the warm relationship the two Bosnians maintain across European football.
MORE LEEDS UNITED STORIES
It emerged in July this year that Leeds United are monitoring Demirovic, as Farke looked to bolster his attacking options. With Gelhardt and Piroe leaving for other English clubs, it was evident that Leeds United needed more options in the frontline.
However, Leeds United ended the summer transfer window without a new centre-forward addition, although they did add Jean-Matteo Bahoya on a season-long loan to their ranks on deadline day. Farke will not have too many complaints about not signing a striker, as Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been phenomenal for the Elland Road outfit this term.
