4 bold predictions for Broncos’ game vs. Chiefs

Despite a crushing defeat at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1, the Denver Broncos have put themselves in position to take over the AFC West division lead at the midway point of the season if they can return the favor on Sunday.

The Broncos will host the Chiefs on Sunday in a key game for both teams. This time it will be played in Denver and this time, the two teams have very different momentum behind them. While the Broncos have won their last three games, the Chiefs are coming off a 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday night.

A win puts the Broncos at 6-2 with a favorable schedule in front of them for the rest of the season. This is a game they need to find a way to win, leading to these four bold predictions.

1. Jonah Coleman hits the century mark

Jonah Coleman has carried the ball in just two games for the Broncos this season, rushing for 39 and 54 yards in those two games, respectively. That puts him at 93 yards rushing on 19 carries for the season.

But things have shifted in Denver's backfield and he is clearly the team's most effective runner. The Broncos will feed him the ball in this game and he will outdo his entire seasonal output in this game, breaking the 100-yard rushing mark for the first time in his professional career.

2. Evan Engram scores again

Evan Engram has scored just one touchdown this season while catching just 13 passes in seven games. He had four of those receptions and that touchdown in Week 1 against the Chiefs.

In this game, with the Broncos missing Pat Bryant and potentially Jaylen Waddle at wide receiver, along with one of their better receiving options in running back RJ Harvey, Engram will get his chances and make the most of them, finding the end zone against the Chiefs for a second time this season.

3. Brandon Jones does it again

This will be two predictions in one.

In Week 1, the Broncos, for as badly as they played, had a great chance to turn things around in the third quarter when Brandon Jones intercepted a pass thrown by Patrick Mahomes and returned it 24 yards to the Chiefs' 5-yard line. Trailing 21-7 at the time, the Broncos had a chance to cut it to a one-score game. Instead, a holding penalty against Bryant and a sack of Bo Nix allowed the Chiefs to escape by just giving up a field goal.

Sunday, Jones will get Mahomes again. With the Chiefs trailing late, the Broncos will get quick pressure on Mahomes, who will make an ill-advised throw that lands in the arms of Jones. This time, it will seal a victory for the Broncos.
