South Korean hometown favorites Si Woo Kim and Sungjae Im are two of the biggest names in the field at the Genesis Championship this week.

Junghwan Lee triumphed at the Genesis Championship last year and the defending champion opened up with a round of one-over par 72.

The tournament is being held at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club in South Korea and a really strong field has assembled to compete for the trophy.

Si Woo Kim and Sungjae Im headline the field, with the likes of Ryan Fox, Thomas Detry and last week’s winner Eugenio Chacarra making up the supporting cast.

The layout at Woo Jeong Hills is truly magnificent and we have already seen some fantastic golf played just one round into the tournament.

So let’s take a look at how the big names got on at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club on Thursday.

How Si Woo Kim and Sungjae Im performed on day one at the Genesis Championship

Si Woo Kim fired an opening round four-under par 67 and he’s currently sitting two strokes adrift of the first-round leader, Casey Jarvis.

The 31-year-old, who resides in Dallas, Texas, bogeyed his opening hole of the day before making five birdies over his final 17 holes.

Meanwhile, Sungjae Im carded a solid if not spectacular opening-round 71.

He made two bogeys, two birdies and 14 pars and will need his putter to get hot on day two if he is to vault himself into contention.

Ryan Fox posted a 68, while Detry and Chacarra carded rounds of 70 and 72 respectively.

With benign conditions expected for the rest of the week at the Genesis Championship in South Korea, the golf course should remain very scoreable.

Si Woo Kim and Sungjae Im will both be looking to shoot in the mid-60s on Friday as the two South Koreans attempt to win in their homeland.
