Brooks Koepka's long-awaited TGL debut will pit him against Rory McIlroy in the opening match of the 2026 season.

After rejoining the PGA Tour at the start of the 2026 season following his departure from LIV Golf, Koepka labeled his campaign "pathetic," with a tied-for-ninth finish at the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches standing as his top result.

As he looks to right the ship, he'll be adding a new competition to his PGA Tour duties, joining TGL for its third season of play as the marquee member of league newcomer Motor City Golf Club.

The five-time major winner will tee off alongside Jackson Koivun, Bud Cauley, Si Woo Kim and Jake Knapp for Motor City as they take on McIlroy and his Boston Common Golf Club on Sunday, Dec. 27 at 1 p.m. on ESPN, the league announced Tuesday.

"I felt comfortable when I met with TGL," Koepka said earlier this year. “It's something to do. It's close by, and I think if you kind of look at it, the guys who have played well over the last little bit have played in it.

"I don't know if there's an advantage to it or not. But it seems like something fun, something I'm interested in. I think it will be a cool experience.”

Koepka will be looking for any edge to turn things around on the PGA Tour after he expressed his displeasure with his first season back.

“Yeah, pretty disappointed," Koepka said after failing to make the PGA Tour playoffs this year. "I think it's pretty pathetic that I can't get through. Zero top-10s basically in two years. To be in the prime of your career and be as good as I think I am, I think that's very pathetic, disappointing. Just need to go home and completely reevaluate everything."

TGL's season-opening fixture leads into a second matchup between Jupiter Links GC and Los Angeles GC, a TGL championship rematch potentially featuring the return of Tiger Woods to the indoor league.

Last year, Woods’ Jupiter Links squad was desperate for players as the 82-time PGA Tour champion was sidelined due to his seventh back surgery in October 2025. Fans eagerly hoped Koepka would join the league to fill the void left by Woods' absence.

Fans didn't get their wish, as Koepka showed his face at the SoFi Center but never participated. Woods eventually returned for the championship, just days before a car wreck and arrest forced him to step away from golf for the remainder of the season.

This year, Woods is expected to play the full schedule, partially forcing Jupiter Links to let go of TGL original Kevin Kisner.

“Tiger wants to play, and they wanted to sign Keith Mitchell, which is totally fine with me,” Kisner said on the Fore Play podcast.

“Rob (McNamara], Tiger’s guy, he texted me a long text last week. Just telling me what they did on their decisions, how they were moving around and what players were going to do, and that Tiger wanted to play a full schedule.”

There is no official confirmation that Woods will tee off in the simulator league or any PGA Tour events this season.
