Ferrari has confirmed that Charles Leclerc will sit out the FP1 session at the Brazilian Grand Prix, paving the way for their promising junior driver, Beganovic, to take the wheel of the SF-26. This marks Ferrari’s third of four mandatory young driver appearances in first practice sessions this season, underscoring the team’s commitment to nurturing talent within its ranks.

In a strategic move, Ferrari also revealed that Lewis Hamilton will be required to relinquish his seat for a second time before the season concludes to fulfill the FIA’s young driver quota. Each race driver must cede their FP1 seat twice during the year, ensuring emerging talents gain invaluable track experience.
Beganovic, a Swedish prospect, expressed his enthusiasm about the opportunity in a recent interview with the official Formula 2 website. “It’s not a driver line-up to joke around about,” he said, referring to the calibre of his mentors. “It’s obviously Lewis and Charles, who are very highly rated in Formula 1 and in racing in general. So it’s great to be up against them, to be next to them and to learn from them, and also to compare yourself to them in the data.”
He continued, highlighting Hamilton’s influence: “Lewis was super nice to me and he opened my eyes a lot as well. He’s pushing the team a lot and he’s so motivated. It’s very inspiring because he’s done so much in his life and career but he’s still wanting to win probably as much as he ever wanted to before.” Beganovic also praised Leclerc’s drive: “Charles as well is pushing to get that world championship with Ferrari. It’s very cool and that is the stuff I am taking with me too.”
Ferrari’s decision to deploy Beganovic follows a dramatic shake-up at Haas, where the team opted to hand their new 2027 driver Câmara a full Formula 1 debut, effectively ending Esteban Ocon’s tenure after a reported breakdown in relations with race engineer Laura Mueller.
Leclerc’s withdrawal from FP1 in Brazil offers the Monegasque a rare moment to spend time with his family in Monaco, particularly with his wife Alexandra and their newborn daughter Bianca, who arrived this past Tuesday.
This development not only highlights Ferrari’s strategic focus on both driver development and personal welfare but also injects fresh intrigue into the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend as young talent Beganovic steps into the spotlight.
