Eagles vs. Cowboys recap: Philadelphia suffers fifth straight loss

The Philadelphia Eagles keep searching for answers after another frustrating performance, falling 38-21 to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night at Lincoln Financial Field. Philadelphia fell to 2-5 and suffered its fifth straight loss since 2016, with the defense delivering arguably its worst showing since Vic Fangio became defensive coordinator.

Dallas finished with 416 total yards, including 204 on the ground, and controlled the line of scrimmage for much of the contest. The Eagles failed to record a sack, tackle for loss, or quarterback hit, allowing Dak Prescott and the Cowboys to operate comfortably throughout the night. Prescott completed 15 of 27 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns. CeeDee Lamb caught five passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns, while George Pickens caught four passes for 57 yards and a touchdown.

Javonte Williams was particularly effective, rushing for 155 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries. His performance exposed Philadelphia's struggles to stop the run, as Dallas repeatedly found running lanes against a defensive front expected to be one of the team's strengths.

Despite the defensive issues, Philadelphia remained competitive early.

Saquon Barkley helped jump-start the offense, rushing for 62 yards and scoring on seven carries. Dameon Pierce added 47 yards and a score as the Eagles stayed within striking distance. Trailing 20-14 at halftime, Philadelphia opened the third quarter with a 17-play, 84-yard touchdown drive that consumed 9:16 and gave the Eagles a 21-20 lead.

Rookie Makai Lemon caught his first career touchdown pass from Tanner McKee, highlighting an impressive performance in which the first-round pick led Philadelphia with seven receptions for 67 yards.

The lead didn't last.

Dallas responded with a touchdown and successful two-point conversion to move ahead 28-21 before adding 10 unanswered fourth-quarter points. McKee completed 23 of 35 passes for 211 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Philadelphia finished with 321 yards but struggled to sustain offense late, particularly after Barkley was listed as questionable to return with a back injury. The Cowboys' defensive front also became a factor, with Quinnen Williams recording three sacks according to the game reports.

Philadelphia now faces another critical stretch, beginning with Sunday's road matchup against the Washington Commanders.

With Jalen Hurts' availability uncertain and injuries continuing to accumulate, the Eagles must address a defense that has become increasingly vulnerable while finding a way to end their five-game losing streak.
