A huge fan of FC Bayern’s style of play and club culture, BFW has been his go to community for everything Bayern and Germany. Needless to say, the strongest avenger is also his favorite avenger.

Bayern Munich had long followed Florian Wirtz’s career in the hopes of signing one of the best German talents of his era. Despite Wirtz’s move to Liverpool more than a year ago, the transfer buzz around the young German and Germany’s biggest club has not cooled down. However, the president of Bayern, Herbert Hainer, has denied that Bayern are actively tracking Wirtz.

Florian Wirtz did not have the best of first seasons at Liverpool. Both the player and the club struggled to match their performances from the season before Wirtz joined the Reds. While there have been several takes on Wirtz’s form, the underwhelming performances have put doubts on whether his signing is feasible in the long term. This situation has turned the Bayern buzz back up. The German giants have been alleged to have serious interest in bringing Wirtz back to his home country and showing the world how to extract the best from him.

In an interview with Sky Germany’s Kerry Hau, the Bayern president admitted that Wirtz’s performances are important from the German national team’s perspective. But he made it clear that the club’s transfer department is currently not looking at Wirtz.

“Florian Wirtz is an outstanding player. I almost feel a bit sorry for him that he hasn’tyet shown the kind of form in England that he had at Leverkusen, because we also need him for the German national team. But we have such a top-quality squad that we are extremely happy with. And therefore, that’s not a topic for us at the moment,” said Hainer (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Does Bayern really look away from German talent ?

While Hainer’s statement may be the official stand from the club, one cannot take away the fact that Bayern cares about having the best Germans on its roster. The case of Leroy Sané is a prime example.

The winger had electrifying performances at Manchester City, a club that would not sell one of its best talents. Yet, he was on Bayern’s radar. When the right moment arrived, Bayern made a swift move to convince Sané and bring him home. Thus, the Wirtz rumors will find ways to keep coming back even if the 23-year-old’s form does eventually improve.
