The Arizona Cardinals have traded quarterback Jacoby Brissett to the Baltimore Ravens. Brissett started this season as Arizona’s starting quarterback, but was benched against the Dallas Cowboys for Gardner Minshew, who is now the Cardinals’ starting quarterback for Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks.
This trade will not be complete in time for Baltimore’s Thursday night game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. So, undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano will still be the starting quarterback for that game. Brissett is expected to make his debut in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The trade comes after news broke earlier that Baltimore’s backup quarterback, Tyler Huntley, would miss the rest of the season with turf toe. Starting quarterback Lamar Jackson is already expected to miss the rest of the season with a thumb injury that requires surgery.
Baltimore is currently 4-4 and is sitting in last place in the AFC North. However, they are still very much in the playoff picture. They trail the Pittsburgh Steelers by two games in the division and are just one game behind the No. 7 seed in the conference. Therefore, winning the division or getting a wild-card spot is still in play with the talent the Ravens have on both sides of the ball.
Brissett has had an up-and-down season with the Cardinals through the first eight games. He has only three games with multiple touchdown passes, and they were all in losses. Brissett also has five games with an interception, including three picks against the New York Giants. But with the talent around him, especially wide receiver Zay Flowers and running back Derrick Henry, Brissett should perform better for the rest of the season in Baltimore.
