Fulham are now preparing an official bid for a defender, with Shahid Khan & co looking to make improvements to the squad in the January transfer window.
That is despite the Cottagers putting in some improved performances over the past few weeks, taking seven points from their last three Premier League matches, a run of form which has moved them two points clear of the relegation zone.
Last time out, Alvaro Arbeloa's side came away with a respectable point at Villa Park, courtesy of a 1-1 draw, with Nicolas Jackson's first-half opener being cancelled out by a Zion Suzki own-goal after the break.
It was an encouraging performance from the visitors, who could have even won the game, based on the balance of play, given that they recorded a better xG than the hosts, but Oscar Bobb, Alex Iwobi, Gonzalo Garcia and Shea Charles all squandered big chances.

After a shaky start to life at Craven Cottage, things are starting to look up for Arbeloa, with his side conceding just one goal in their last three Premier League matches.
However, despite the improved results and solid defensive record in recent times, the west Londoners are looking to improve their backline in the upcoming transfer window.
According to a report from Turkey, Trabzonspor defender Chibuike Nwaiwu has now been identified as a top January target for Fulham, and an official bid is now in the works, but there could be competition in the race for his signature.
Premier League rivals Crystal Palace have also pinpointed Nwaiwu as a major target, and the Eagles have been watching him in action in the Turkish Super Lig.
The Trabzonspor star certainly impressed in the Turkish Super Lig last season, with scout Jacek Kulig taking to X to praise his performance in a 2-1 victory against Galatasaray back in April.
The 23-year-old who has collected three caps for Nigeria, has remained an important player for the Turkish side this season, making nine league appearances, during which time he's chipped in with one goal and one assist.
More importantly, the centre-back has also looked solid at the back, averaging 9.8 defensive contributions per 90 in the Turkish Super Lig, which is 3.0 more than any other member of the Trabzonspor squad.
As such, Nwaiwu may be ready to take the next step in his career by sealing a move to the Premier League, and he could be an astute signing for Fulham.
