Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Gael Monfils will all feature at the farewell exhibition for Stan Wawrinka as the Swiss great calls time on his playing career.

41-year-old Wawrinka will play his final competitive tournament at the Swiss Indoors in Basel next week before his farewell exhibition celebration which is scheduled to take place in Geneva on December 19.

Monfils’ inclusion in the exhibition comes after his surprise early retirement following his separation from wife and fellow tennis star Elina Svitolina.

40-year-old Monfils had initially planned to retire at the 2026 Paris Masters in November but elected to bring forward his retirement date with the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) having added his name to its official ‘retired’ list. Monfils has also removed himself from the sport’s anti-doping protocols meaning he is no longer eligible to enter competitive tournaments.

As well as a celebration of Wawrinka’s career the exhibition will now also be an opportunity for fans to see Monfils play one last time.

At the Lyon Open this week, Wawrinka, who was beaten by Flavio Cobolli in the second round, confirmed plans for his farewell exhibition and revealed that Federer, Murray and Monfils have all agreed to take part.

“Roger said yes, as did Gael — who agreed immediately — and Andy, who confirmed he’ll be there,” the Swiss said.

“It’s a way to do something a bit more light-hearted, because I know that in Basel — while it will be a beautiful occasion — it’s also going to be quite heavy. It’s an emotional experience.

“Of course, it’s still an exhibition, so it’s easier to manage. Once I decided to do it, the goal was to make my ‘goodbyes’ a bit easier to celebrate, and also to have the chance to bring along my friends.”

The exhibition which is being called ‘One Last Backhand’ celebrates the career of the three-time grand slam champion and will feature a one-set singles match between Wawrinka and Monfils followed by a two-set doubles match in which Wawrinka and Federer will renew their Swiss partnership and take on Murray and Monfils.

The remaining few tickets for the event in Geneva will go on sale on October 30.
