"They should have stated the criteria much more clearly beforehand" - Former hockey players critical of Fallon Sherrock's inclusion in Beat Luke Littler

Fallon Sherrock has returned to the mainstream after brilliantly taking down the world number one Luke Littler to win a hefty £501,000. While her accomplishment has been widely recognised and commended, there are still some out there who do not believe that 'The Queen of the Palace' should have competed.

This was the view of hockey players Ellen Hoog and Naomi van As, who watched from a distance as Sherrock won the ultimate prize.

The second biggest payday in darts following Littler's world championship win at the start of the year, a briliant 15-dart leg on tops after winning the bull capitalised on an off-leg by 'The Nuke.' She went home with the money, with Beat Luke Littler having contrasting reviews.

Sherrock was called up as one of the 20 players to feature in the show, but Netflix was on the end of a lot of criticism for this decision, along with inviting the likes of Mitchell Lawrie. They fit the bill in terms of not having Tour Cards, but fans were led to believe that amateurs would be facing off against the two-time world champion. Sherrock, who has won matches at Ally Pally before, does not fit in that category.

Criticism over advertisement for event

The debacle and discussion from this event have continued from the moment Sherrock pinned double 20. Hoog noted her prior accomplishments and even the fact that in her X bio it says that she is a 'professional'.

She understands the view of many darts fans. “People thought they were only going to invite unprofessional darts players who occasionally throw a dart in the pub. Then Sherrock wins,” she said. “But Barry Hearn, president of the PDC darts association, thinks the reactions are unjustified. He wondered: 'do we have to field a bunch of pub darts players who can't even finish a leg ?'That isn't fun either. They should have stated the criteria much more clearly beforehand.”

Van As firmly pinned the blame on the organisers, not singling out Sherrock in this situation. “Actually, she can't enjoy that 501,000 pounds. She was forced to give a response. She had to defend herself, but she can't help it. It is the organisation that decided this. But it is nice, of course: it is a lot of money.” Hoog then wonders how much money Littler is getting for this. “Well, this is a Netflix production. That could well be a few million.”
