Yashasvi Jaiswal smashes six to complete century, celebrates with flying kiss

Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered a timely reminder of his batting class during the second unofficial Test between India A and New Zealand A at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The left-handed opener ended his recent struggles in red-ball cricket with a magnificent century, reaching the three-figure mark with a six before celebrating the milestone by blowing a flying kiss towards the Indian dugout.

Yashasvi Jaiswal hits six to reach century

Jaiswal reached his century in spectacular fashion by launching New Zealand A spinner Dean Foxcroft over the midwicket boundary. The six took him to the landmark in just 119 balls and showcased the attacking approach that has become a defining feature of his batting.

Rather than settling for a quiet celebration, Jaiswal expressed his excitement with a flying kiss towards the Indian team’s dugout. The moment reflected the significance of the innings for a batter who had been searching for a substantial score.

Here’s the video:

His century was built on a mixture of positive footwork, calculated aggression and an ability to find gaps regularly. Jaiswal took on the bowlers when opportunities arose while ensuring that India A did not lose further momentum after two quick wickets.

He eventually finished unbeaten on 155 from 162 deliveries, striking 15 fours and five sixes. His innings gave India A the platform to turn a difficult position into one of considerable strength.

Jaiswal bounces back after consecutive low scores

The century was particularly important because Jaiswal had endured a frustrating start to the New Zealand A tour. He scored 17 and five in the two innings of the first unofficial Test before being dismissed for a duck in India’s first innings in Christchurch.

Those results raised questions about his form ahead of India’s senior team’s two-Test assignment against New Zealand. The conditions presented a challenge, with seam movement making life difficult for the visiting batters.

Jaiswal, however, showed patience and determination in his second innings. Resuming on 20 overnight, he gradually found his rhythm before shifting gears and putting the New Zealand A bowlers under pressure.

His ability to turn a difficult run into a commanding innings will be encouraging for the Indian management. The performance also provided valuable time in the middle in conditions similar to those he could encounter during the senior team’s Test series.

Yash Rathod joins Jaiswal with unbeaten century

Jaiswal was not the only India A batter to make a major contribution. Yash Rathod played a crucial supporting role, remaining unbeaten on 100 off 122 deliveries.

The pair came together after India A lost Sai Sudharsan for 11 and Devdutt Padikkal for a duck in quick succession. With the visitors reduced to 35/2, the situation demanded a substantial partnership.

Jaiswal and Rathod responded superbly, adding an unbeaten 247 runs for the third wicket. Their partnership erased New Zealand A’s first-innings advantage and ensured India A had control of the contest by the final afternoon.

India A eventually declared their second-innings effort at 282/2, taking their overall lead to 204 runs before both teams agreed to a draw.
