Shedeur Sanders is all set to make his first start of the 2026 NFL season when the Cleveland Browns face the New Orleans Saints in Week 9. The second-year quarterback seems excited about the opportunity, too, as he shared a hype video on social media ahead of Sunday’s game.
Sanders has spent most of the season on the sideline behind Deshaun Watson, so this is his chance to make a case for himself as the Browns’ quarterback of the future. Fans, however, weren’t convinced the video post was warranted before he had even taken the field as a starter.
Sanders initially shared the video on Instagram with the caption, “Thank you GOD $².” It featured highlights from his NFL career set to his song “Perfect Timing.”
As expected, the post drew a wave of reactions, with many fans taking shots at the young quarterback. “This is comical,” one fan wrote in response to Ian Rapoport’s repost.
Another viewer added, “I’ve never seen a hype video from such a low draft pick… Kind of embarrassing.”
“Bro has more hype videos than passing yards,” a third fan joked.
The passing yards joke lands a little differently when looking at Sanders’ numbers this season. He has completed three passes for two yards in two brief appearances, both coming after Watson took a hit. But Sanders threw for 1,400 yards as a rookie while starting seven games, giving him some NFL highlights to work with.
“Talk about feeling self-important when he hasn’t done [expletive],”one viewer wrote. Another kept it to four words. “This is just dumb,” the fan posted.
“Not gonna lie, this is pathetic lol. He better play good tomorrow,”one X user remarked.
Earlier in the week, Sanderspushed back on a question about hiring an agent, asking what it had to do with the game. By Friday, the Browns had confirmed he would start against New Orleans.
Watson remained in concussion protocol and had not taken team reps, while Sanders worked with the first team throughout the week. Head coach Todd Monken liked what he saw from the young QB.
“Been great, been a really good three days,” Monken said. “I liked his confidence, liked the way that he operated. He looked very comfortable in terms of getting our guys in and out of the huddle and getting to the line of scrimmage, which will be half of the battle this week, obviously going there. And I thought he threw the ball extremely well.”
The Browns scored just six points against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, with Sanders attempting only two passes after entering the game.
Sunday’s matchup gives the Colorado product a chance to lead the offense from the opening drive and show whether he can build on what he did as a rookie.
