Man Utd three-man January transfer shortlist revealed after Scholes list five stars to save club

Man Utd have picked out a three-man shortlist as they look to bring in as many as two signings to the club in January, according to reports.

The Red Devils spent most of their summer transfer budget on their midfield with Andrey Santos, Carlos Baleba and Youri Tielemans all coming through the door in big-money deals.

Man Utd are reportedly looking to overhaul their defence in 2027, while a new striker is also thought to be on the cards ahead of the winter transfer window.

The Red Devils have been suffering on the pitch so far this season with Michael Carrick’s men currently level on points with 18th-placed Crystal Palace, who find themselves in the relegation zone.

A 3-2 comeback win over Roma saw Man Utd end a nine-match winless run and give Carrick hope as they head into their final game before the international break at home to Aston Villa on Sunday.

And The Sun has now revealed a three-man shortlist of players Man Utd could sign in January with the Red Devils ‘open to bolstering their defence and attack in the winter transfer window’.

Man Utd were linked with numerous left-backs in the summer transfer window but decided not to move with players like Newcastle star Lewis Hall proving to be too expensive.

The Sun names Man City left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri as one target, while Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell – who is out of contract at the end of the season – ‘would be a cost-efficient alternative in January’.

Man Utd are also searching for another striker in January with Benjamin Sesko recently suffering a shin injury and the possibility of Joshua Zirkzee leaving the club in the winter window.

Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz, who played on loan at Middlesbrough under Carrick, ‘is a short-term option’ as they look for a striker to cover.

Scholes names five signings to save Man Utd

Paul Scholes recently revealed that five players he would sign to save Man Utd with the ex-Red Devils midfielder naming Gabriel Magalhaes. Jude Bellingham, Michael Olise, Kylian Mbappe and Declan Rice as his picks.

When asked to name five players he would sign for Man Utd, Scholes responded on The Good, The Bad & The Football: “Any player? Right, I’ll go for Gabriel from Arsenal, Jude Bellingham, Michael Olise, Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane. Actually, I’d swap Declan Rice for Harry Kane.”

Former Man Utd team-mate Butt said: “Gabriel, I’ll stick with Scholesy. Harry Kane, Declan Rice. I like the spine of proper English players. Lamine Yamal.

“We need a left back, Lewis Hall from Newcastle and English. I think everyone would say Kylian Mbappe, I think seeing him playing for Man United would be wild, wouldn’t it?

“Imagine seeing him playing for someone who can actually go and light up the stadium.”
