Baylor had one of its biggest rises to the national spotlight with Robert Griffin III playing for the Bears.

So, could the school look to RGIII to bring them back there in a new role?

While appearing on “The Dan Patrick Show” Monday, Griffin let it be known that he has already had talks with Baylor’s athletic director, Doug McNamee, about the position.

“Yes, 100 percent,” Griffin said (thanks to ESPN for the quotes). “If Baylor wants to get back to winning and have a university that isn’t just respectable on the football field, but the fans can be proud of, they need people who know what it looks like to win at Baylor.

“So yeah, I would 100 percent be interested.”

Baylor fired Dave Aranda after a loss to Kansas this past weekend. Aranda had a record of 40-40 during his stint with the Bears. Joe Klanderman was named interim head coach.

Robert Griffin III Experienced Highest Of Highs With Baylor

With RGIII at the controls, Baylor went 10-3, with Griffin capturing the Heisman Trophy in 2011. That season concluded with a 67-56 victory over Washington in the Alamo Bowl.

Griffin threw for 4,293 yards and 37 touchdowns, becoming the only player to win the Heisman for Baylor. He also ran for 699 yards and scored 10 more touchdowns.

Over four years with the Bears, Griffin won 23 games, throwing for 10,366 yards and 78 touchdowns with 2,254 rushing yards and 33 more touchdowns.

Following a seven-year NFL career after he was selected second overall in the 2012 NFL Draft, Griffin moved into announcing. He is currently a college football analyst and broadcaster working for Fox Sports.

Baylor Might Have Several Worthy Candidates To Replace Dave Aranda

The job at Baylor could be one of several open following the 2026 season. However, they might have some big-name candidates available.

Lincoln Riley’s name is already floating around out there. The Texas native is on thin ice at USC following a loss this past weekend to Wisconsin.

The Bears finish out the regular season with UCF this weekend, followed by Iowa State, BYU, Texas Tech and Houston. They are 4-3 overall, but have lost two in a row.
