Florida basketball’s recent run has pushed the program higher in one historical ranking of the sport’s biggest names.
The Gators currently rank No. 28 in Liz Powell’s All-Time AP Poll, which treats each weekly Associated Press men’s basketball poll since 1949 as a separate ballot and combines them into a single historical ranking.
Powell’s system uses the same scoring structure as the weekly AP poll. A No. 1 ranking is worth 25 points, No. 2 earns 24, and the scale continues down to one point for No. 25. Each weekly poll is then treated as a single ballot in the larger historical ranking.
The result rewards programs that have maintained national relevance over long stretches of time rather than simply reaching the top for a season or two — hence the blue-blood programs at the top, such as Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, and Kansas.
The ranking also tracks how many weeks each program has been ranked, how many times it has held the No. 1 spot and where it sits in the current AP poll. Florida is the current No. 1 team in the most recent AP poll, meaning the Gators’ top preseason ranking for the 2026-27 season is already included in the all-time calculation.
Florida’s No. 28 ranking follows one of the strongest stretches in program history. The Gators won the 2025 national championship, remained among the nation’s top teams throughout the following season and now enter 2026-27 at the top of the preseason AP Top 25.
A betting man would put good money on Florida continuing to climb this list.
Because Powell’s rankings update with each new AP poll, the Gators will add more points to their historical total each week they remain near the top of the rankings.
