Newcastle United and Sunderland records on the line in two mouthwatering challenges

Women's Football Notebook: It's back to league action with two tough away days

The WSL2 takes centre stage again this weekend after a couple of weeks of League Cup action, with two top-of-the-table clashes and one basement battle for our sides.

Newcastle United may have lost all three of their League Cup games so far, including last week's derby at home to Sunderland, but they have a 100 per cent record in the league.

There were a few murmurings on social media questioning Tanya Oxtoby's side last weekend, and while you can understand a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to a loss in an important game, their league record speaks for itself.

Having only conceded one goal in five matches, Oxtoby takes her team to the City Ground to meet a Nottingham Forest team who have scored at least one in every game.

Six points behind in fourth place, but also unbeaten, Forest will certainly be a big challenge to United.

Sunderland are on a high after beating Newcastle, and travel to Ipswich hoping to continue their unbeaten record - but their hosts are also unbeaten in third spot.

Ipswich have also had a week off following their draw, and then loss of the bonus point via penalties, against Wolves. They have certainly continued their great form from the second part of last season which saw them to safety.

Last season they played out two 2-1 wins to the respective home sides and I expect another close game.

Durham continue to confuse and worry their fans. Performing better but with no points to show for their efforts, they remain at the bottom of the table.

After a fantastic fightback last weekend at Burnley in the cup, they were thwarted by an injury-time winner from the home side, but they should be full of confidence, despite losing to WSL's Birmingham in midweek.

A trip to Vicarage Road to face Watford is this week's task. Watford have played three draws so far this season and sit two places above Willie Kirk's side.
