Cole Palmer has been left out of the England squad once again, and Thomas Tuchel has had to defend his decision from the media.

The England squad is out and Cole Palmer has missed out once again.

Manager Thomas Tuchel said he was going to “stick to the guys who were in the previous camp,” because he had been “happy with the two and a half weeks we had together.”

There are new additions in attacking midfield however – Jobe Bellingham and Josh King.

Palmer misses out for England again

We’re not sure Palmer can have too many complaints. He missed out on the last international break because he wanted to recover a  little in the middle of a busy season.. That’s totally fair. But it’s also fair for Tuchel to not call up a player who he hasn’t seen much of.

Palmer can’t have it both ways – if you miss training camps, whatever the reason, you miss the chance to impress. Then you are less likely to get called up next time.

He must have weighed that up in the last break, and pulled out anyway. If he has a brilliant run with Chelsea, his time will come again, without doubt. He can use this chance to rest once again, and then attack the Christmas period at full power.
