Torquay United’s 11-0 defeat of Holsworthy was the standout scoreline in a midweek of Devon St Luke’s Bowl games which whittled down 16 teams to a quarter-final eight.

Cody Cooke scored four goals at Plainmoor on Tuesday night as a strong Gulls team thrashed their South West Peninsula League Premier West visitors, who never gave up, but who will have left South Devon feeling somewhat punch drunk. As well as Cooke’s four, there was a hat-trick for Matt Jay, two for Tegan Finn, and one each for Dan Hayfield and Sean Robertson.

“It was certainly a good performance,” said the Gulls’ assistant manager Darren Way. “I think it was a professional performance from the players and we paid the competition a huge amount of respect. Fair play to Holsworthy, they never stopped running, as a team they kept working extremely hard for each other.”
