7 key fantasy football predictions: Don't expect huge Week 9 for Joe Borrow

NFL Week 9 is here, and the chaos continues in fantasy football!

We're coming off a huge week of games, and with the fantasy playoffs quickly approaching, what are some bold predictions for Week 9?

Joe Burrow finishes with fewer than half his Week 8 points

Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow is coming off a massive 42.5-point performance, on the back of six total touchdowns, but that won't be replicated this week. I know, not that much of a hot take saying a player won't post 40+ points again, but I think Burrow finishes with 16-21 points against the Falcons. They're playing an international game in Madrid, which brings its own wonkiness, and it's also a tough matchup. The Falcons allow only 15.6 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks, which is the 12th-fewest in the league. Burrow is great, but this isn't a great spot.

Malik Nabers continues to dominate

Four straight games with 100+ yards, and WR Malik Nabers will make it five against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Nabers has been on fire in the four games prior to the New York Giants' bye week, and he'll pick up right where he left off. The Eagles allow a staggering 39.4 PPR fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers, putting Nabers in a spot to finish as the weekly WR1. The connection with J.J. McCarthy seems to be developing nicely, and they'll put it on full display against the sinking Eagles.

Seahawks get 'back on track'

I'm going to put this in quotes, because the Seattle Seahawks are playing the Arizona Cardinals this week. They're expected to roll over the Cardinals, so we have to take it with a grain of salt. The Seahawks have a 27.0 implied team total and are 11.5-point home favorites, which shouldn't be too much of a surprise. They're coming off a bad game, and this will help quiet the doubters for one more week. QB Sam Darnold and WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba will connect for 125+ yards and at least one touchdown.

49ers dominate fantasy Week 9

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy, RB Christian McCaffrey and TE George Kittle all finish as top 5 at their respective positions. The Las Vegas Raiders are in the bottom 10 in fantasy points allowed against quarterbacks, running backs and tight ends. Yeah, this isn't a scorching hot take, but coming off a loss and their bye week, the 49ers will be primed to bounce back at home. The 49ers' offense sits at 0.154 EPA/play, which is the second-highest in the league, while the Raiders' defense sits at 0.064 EPA/play, which is 25th in the league. The 49ers rout the Raiders in an old-time Bay Area matchup.

Woody Marks grinds his way to 15+ fantasy points

Prior to the Houston Texans' bye week, RB Woody Marks saw 20 total touches, but only finished with 9.10 PPR points. His high-water mark for the year is only 12.50 fantasy points, but Marks will push past that this week. With little competition in the backfield, and a solid matchup versus the Los Angeles Chargers – who allow the 11th-most PPR points per game to running backs – Marks will find his way to 15+ points. He's inefficient at times, but the Chargers are disinterested and exhausted on defense after a 0-7 start.

Jonah Coleman impresses yet again

With RJ Harvey on IR, Denver Broncos RB Johan Coleman commanded the backfield last week with 15 total touches, compared to just seven for J.K. Dobbins. Coleman has flashed his PPR upside with nine receptions in three games, bringing a different element to the Broncos' offense compared to Dobbins. The Carolina Panthers' defense looks like a sieve, as they've allowed the second-most points per game (28.3 PPR) this season against running backs. Coleman will jump at this chance and finish as a top 15 running back this week.

Rams and Commanders combine for 60+ points

A big 47.5-point total is a good indication we'll see some scoring, but I think they'll fly over this. The Los Angeles Rams' offense looks to be getting back on track; albeit, they had some easy matchups in the last two weeks, while the Washington Commanders' defense continues to struggle and is dealing with even more injuries. The Commanders' offense is slowly improving with QB Jayden Daniels under center, and now sits at 0.114 EPA/play, which is just a hair higher than Rams QB Matthew Stafford at 0.111 EPA/play. The passing games will take center stage en route to the game of the week.
