ESPN's Ben Solak rattled off five trade deadline predictions, one of which included Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs.
After the Colts moved on from Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner last week, Downs requested a trade. According to reports, Indianapolis is hoping to get a third-round pick back for the 2023 draft pick.
In Solak's prediction, the Colts do get a third-round pick; however, it's not for the 2027 draft, and Indianapolis has to give up a draft pick of their own in addition to Downs.
Instead, in Solak's hypothetical deal, the Colts send Downs and a 2027 fifth-round pick to the LA Rams in exchange for a 2028 third-round selection.
"He gives them a short-area winner for the goal-line and third-down packages at which wideout Davante Adams excelled -- and, with Matthew Stafford struggling on longer throws and wanting to check down more often, quick winners are needed," Solak wrote.
He continues, "If the Rams are still all-in on this version of their team, Downs makes sense as a short-term relief valve and potential long-term signee to pair with Puka Nacua for the Ty Simpson era."
Downs is currently in the final year of his rookie deal and is set to be a free agent this upcoming offseason.
A third-round pick by the Colts in 2023, Downs has caught 30 passes this season for 330 yards and one touchdown.
