Four wickets in four balls: 20-year-old India spinner continues to rewrite record books

Vaishnavi Sharma added another feat to her growing list of achievements on Friday, taking 6-22, including four wickets in four consecutive deliveries, during Madhya Pradesh’s Women's Senior T20 Trophy match against Andhra.

Vaishanvi Sharma takes four in four!

The 20-year-old left-arm spinner was introduced into the attack in the fifth over of Andhra's innings, picking up two wickets in her first three overs while conceding 16 runs. She was brought back to bowl the penultimate over, but did not have the desired start, conceding a two and a four off her first two deliveries. However, she turned things around in remarkable fashion, taking a hat-trick before claiming another wicket off the final ball of the over to finish with four wickets in four balls.

She also became just the second Indian woman after Humaira Kazi to take four wickets off consecutive deliveries for T20s where data is available.

It extended her impressive run of form across formats. Vaishnavi, who made her international debut last December, has taken five wickets in T20Is at an economy rate of 6.26. She starred in India's ODI series against Zimbabwe last month, claiming nine wickets in two matches, including figures of 5-39 in the third ODI. Before that, she had impressed for India A against Australia, taking eight wickets in three ODIs before returning figures of 6-52 and 3-58 in the one-off unofficial Test.

Earlier in 2025, she became the first bowler to take a hat-trick in the history of the Women's Under-19 T20 World Cup, achieving the feat against Malaysia. She finished that match with figures of 5-5 from four overs, and ended the tournament with 17 wickets, the most in the edition.

She also holds the records for the best innings and match figures by an Indian in women's first-class cricket.Playing for Team D in the final of the Senior Women's Multi-Day Challenger Trophy in 2024/25, she took 8-50 and finished with match figures of 14-128 against Team A.

Vaishnavi was named BCCI's Best Junior Cricketer of the Year (Women) for 2022/23 after taking 23 wickets at an economy rate of 3.00 in the Under-19 Women's T20 Trophy, helping her team win the title.
