The women’s domestic season has been going on, and during the Senior Women's T20 Trophy in Pune, yet another record was created. This time it was not a team record; it was an individual record. India Women’s National Cricket Team star Prema Rawat became the cricketer to score the fastest half-century in women’s T20 cricket. This is a historic milestone for the cricketer.

Women’s cricket has been gaining more momentum and popularity post the ICC ODI World Cup win of the Indian team and the Women’s Premier League (WPL) from which several uncapped players have gone on to perform well in the tournament and went on to represent the national team. Prema Rawat represents Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the WPL.

Prema Rawat creates world record after scoring fastest fifty

Prema Rawat was brilliant as she set a new record in the Senior Women's T20 Trophy, scoring the fastest half-century in women's T20 cricket. She was playing for Uttarakhand against Hyderabad in the Senior Women's T20 Trophy Elite match at the MCA Cricket Stadium in Gahunje, Pune. On Monday, the 24-year-old scored her half-century in just 14 balls.

Prema Rawat surpassed the previous record of 15 deliveries, which Pakistan captain Fatima Sana scored. The RCB cricketer was unbeaten on 50 off 14 balls, smashing six fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 357.14. She helped the Uttarakhand side to post 187 for two after opting to bat first. She was also named Player of the Match for her amazing performance, as she picked two wickets as well.

Who has the fastest fifty in international cricket?

Other than Fatima Sana, other batters have scored fifties in 15 deliveries as English cricketer Marie Kelly scored a half-century off 15 balls for Warwickshire against Gloucestershire in 2022; she was the first to score the fastest fifty in women’s T20 cricket. Laura Harris matched her record while playing for Otago against Canterbury in 2025.

Despite Prema Rawat breaking the overall record, her counterpart Fatima Sana still holds the record for the fastest fifty in a Women’s T20I game. Sophie Devine (New Zealand), Phoebe Litchfield (Australia), and Richa Ghosh (India) are the other players to have scored their fifties off 18 balls in international cricket. Richa Ghosh remains the Indian to score the fastest fifty in international cricket.

Uttarakhand wins the game in dominating fashion

Coming to the match, Uttarakhand won the toss and elected to bat; skipper Raghvi Bisht and Kareena had a solid start. The two stitched a partnership of 72 runs for the first wicket, as the latter scored 44 runs. Raghvi played a superb knock of 72 runs off 50 deliveries, smashing 5 fours and four sixes. Prema’s fiery fifty helped the side to post 187/2 in 20 overs.

Hyderabad side did not have the best of a start as they kept on losing wickets. Their highest score was 25 runs by Gugulothu Kavyasree. The side could only score 98/8 in their 20 overs and lost the match by a huge margin of 89 runs.
