Devils Daily: Hometown Remix Jerseys, Quinn Hughes, Larkin’s List
Jack Hughes models the Devils black Hometown Remix jersey with red stripes, standing on ice in front of a red-tinted Hoboken skyline and clock tower.

The New Jersey Devils had a second straight day off Monday, so naturally the biggest Devils news was about clothes. The team unveiled its Hometown Remix jersey, a black inverse of the 2024 Stadium Series look, and the internet did what it always does with a new jersey: argued about it. Philly Hockey Now ranked it 30th of 32, and Sportsnet had it 26th. Tough crowd.

The rest of the league kept bringing the conversation back to New Jersey anyway. Sportsnet’s Ryan Dixon floated the Washington Capitals as a rental landing spot for Quinn Hughes, while writing that it’s getting easier to believe Luke and Jack’s older brother ends up a Devil in free agency. In Detroit, Dylan Larkin may be about to change the list of teams he’d accept a trade to. The links are below.

Devils Trade Rumors & News

Daniel Amoia has the first look at the Devils’ Hometown Remix jerseys and the full schedule of when they’ll be worn. The design flips the 2024 Stadium Series jersey and gives the Devils a black alternate again after the “Jersey Jersey” was retired. Daniel points out the fan reaction has been mixed, just as it was for the Stadium Series release, and that even the “Jersey Jersey” was booed the first time it hit the video board. They debut Nov. 18 against the Montreal Canadiens, and the jerseys are on sale now at NHL Shop, Fanatics and the Devils Den in Newark.

Arthur Staple joins the Devils Rink Report to talk about the Devils’ Stanley Cup chances, and he thinks they can get there.

NHL Trade Talk, News & National Hockey Now

Ryan Dixon asks whether the time is right for the Washington Capitals to make a big swing, and his favorite target is Quinn Hughes. Dixon writes that the longer Hughes goes without an extension with the Minnesota Wild, the easier it is to believe his destiny is New Jersey, where his two brothers play, with free agency coming in July. If the Devils really are the only team Hughes would extend with, Dixon wonders whether Minnesota should cash him in and Washington should take him as a pure rental. He even mentions the Capitals possibly having to deal with “a Devils squad that has both Connor Hellebuyck and Quinn Hughes on it” down the road. His weekend takeaways also cover the Seattle Kraken trading Shane Wright to the Nashville Predators for Matthew Wood on Sunday.

David Morassutti ranked all 32 Hometown Remix jerseys and put the Anaheim Ducks’ Mighty Ducks throwback first. The Devils landed 26th, with Morassutti writing that the team “generally played it safe” and made minor adjustments rather than something that feels like a real departure.

Bob Duff is making sense of the latest Dylan Larkin rumblings after Elliotte Friedman said Larkin’s 10-team trade list could be altered within 24 to 48 hours, with teams possibly coming off or going on. Friedman also said the Minnesota Wild believe they have a great offer on the table, reportedly built around Danila Yurov, another player and two or three first-round picks. Detroit Red Wings interim general manager Shawn Horcoff says the goal is players who can help right away.

On the ice, Max Smith has the Red Wings’ 5-3 win over the Florida Panthers. Carter Mazur scored his first NHL goal, Justin Faulk and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard had two points each, and Emmitt Finnie sealed it with an empty-netter.

Jim Cerny lays out five New York Rangers storylines for November, starting with a four-game losing streak that has them at 7-7-1. He points to the Thanksgiving “rule,” since three-quarters of teams in a playoff spot at U.S. Thanksgiving make the postseason, and notes the Rangers are 0-6-1 when allowing the first goal. With Igor Shesterkin out for the season, Cerny says the Rangers need Dylan Garand to hold on until Joonas Korpisalo is back, and they could be shopping for a veteran goalie such as Jordan Binnington or Darcy Kuemper by the end of the month.

Dan Kingerski has the Pittsburgh Penguins’ injury news: Evgeni Malkin (six goals, 11 points in 14 games) and defenseman Kaedan Korczak are day-to-day with lower-body injuries, and Elmer Soderblom was downgraded to week-to-week.

William James ranked all 32 Hometown Remix jerseys too, and he was harder on the Devils, putting them 30th ahead of only the Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers. He also has the Philadelphia Flyers loaning Alex Bump back to the Phantoms, which opens a roster spot. Bump has no points in eight NHL games this season after scoring seven goals in five AHL games.

Jack Studley has the Boston Bruins’ 3-2 shootout win over the Vegas Golden Knights, decided by David Pastrnak. James Hagens scored his sixth goal, the most among NHL rookies, and Braeden Bowman was ejected for an elbow to Matt Poitras, who did not return.
