Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones spoke with reporters after the Week 8 loss to the Denver Broncos. He addressed an issue within the defensive line that held them back last Sunday.
"Rush the passer. It's only one thing. Rush the passer. Get the quarterback down. I think we blocked a couple balls, but I don't think we got him down today," said Jones. "I put that on the D line. One-on-ones. We've got to win our one-on-ones. It's a big emphasis on winning one-on-ones. We got to take advantage of that. We get a one-on-one; we've got to win."
Chiefs defensive lineman George Karlaftis was active at the line of scrimmage on Sunday, batting down passes, securing a sack, and forcing a fumble. The unit still struggles to generate consistent pressure and sacks. As the group's leader, Jones isn't beating around the bush about the defensive line needing to improve.
Jones has 13 total tackles, 0.5 sacks, and 1 fumble recovery through 7 games this season.
