Virgil van Dijk couldn't contain his anger during a fiery post-match interview after Liverpool's loss to Arsenal. The Reds were on top for much of the contest but paid the price for an early mistake at the back, which let Kai Havertz net what turned out to be the decisive goal.

Alisson Becker's wayward pass gave Arsenal the chance to open the scoring and they held firm until the final whistle to claim all three points.

Liverpool created numerous opportunities to equalise, with Florian Wirtz and Alexis Mac Allister both coming close, while they probably deserved a penalty when Alexander Isak was brought down inside the box.

Yet no spot-kick was awarded, leaving Van Dijk fuming as he looked back on his team's slender loss following the match. Talking to Sky Sports, he stated: "I think it was a clear penalty. I've seen it back and I've seen it being given. Today it wasn't meant to be," reports the Express.

When questioned whether Isak ought to have reacted more to persuade the referee, Van Dijk responded: "We have 50 cameras. Why does he have to complain when there are so many cameras?".

"Everyone has seen it. In the end it wasn't given and we lose the game unfortunately, so well done to Arsenal."

Van Dijk didn't try to conceal his genuine emotions as he assessed Liverpool's display, with the Reds performing strongly despite failing to find the back of the net. "Disappointed," he continued.

"We play at home, we had some opportunities. We tried everything. We could have done a bit better in the last 15 minutes to get more balls in the box.

"It wasn't enough today and that's why disappointment is the feeling I'm having. When we conceded we played much better. Alexis could have changed the game."
