Alexis Mac Allister makes Liverpool title promise after Jamie Carragher talks up chances

Liverpool's title chances have been talked up ahead of facing defending champion Arsenal, and Alexis Mac Allister has made his feelings clear about the Reds' targets

Alexis Mac Allister promised Liverpool will “fight” for every trophy, including the Premier League, as the Reds have had their title chances talked up.

Andoni Iraola’s side looks to be building some momentum, having won its last five games across all competitions to remain in the hunt for four trophies this season.

Liverpool will turn its attention back to Premier League matters this weekend as it hosts Arsenal with the chance to narrow the gap to the defending champions to three points. With Manchester City’s punishment after being found guilty of financial breaches yet to be decided, some pundits have suggested a win for the Reds could put it in the picture for the title.

And while his head coach has done his best to play down talk of a challenge for the league crown, Mac Allister has taken a different approach.

“We know that in the Carabao Cup we are close, but for us Premier League and Champions League are really, really important, so we are going to fight for every trophy, FA Cup as well,” the midfielder told Sky Sports ahead of Sunday’s game.

“If we have the chance to win trophies we are going to go for it, and I think we have a coaching staff and a group of players that shows every single game that we want to win.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

“That's being successful for me, for the team. I feel to have that bond with the fans is already pretty important, so hopefully it continues like this and we can win some trophies this year.”

Mac Allister’s comments come after Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher raised the question of his former side being in the conversation for this season’s title, while Alan Shearer has backed the Reds to be contenders should they beat Arsenal.

"Here is a question I did not think I would be asking at any stage this season: will Liverpool win the Premier League?” Carragher wrote in his latest column for The Telegraph.

Jamie Carragher has been discussing Liverpool's potential Premier League title hopes

“It would be premature to describe this Sunday’s Anfield fixture as a title duel. Arsenal are better equipped to defend their crown, while Liverpool are a work in progress.

"Whatever the outcome this weekend, Arsenal will leave Merseyside as the overwhelming favorites to claim back-to-back titles. They have a six-point lead over Liverpool. Should that extend to nine, Andoni Iraola’s primary objective coming into this season will remain unchanged; qualifying for the Champions League will represent a promising start to his reign.

"What makes this weekend more significant is the champions will find a different Anfield to that which ended last season in such a downbeat mood, and came into this one uncertain of what was in store. The discussion about what is achievable for Liverpool in the coming months is evolving by the week, the team bubbling along slightly under the radar."
